At The Lake Primary School, we're proud to be leading the way in exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance learning, not replacing it. Our current focus is the Bertie Project: a classroom trial of an AI learning sidekick designed to support students in becoming more confident, independent, and reflective learners.
Bertie acts as a personalised learning assistant, guiding students through questions, prompting deeper thinking, and helping them explain their reasoning. She doesn't give answers, she helps students find them. Through this trial we're exploring how AI can encourage curiosity, improve engagement, and strengthen self-regulation skills in a safe, structured classroom environment.
We see technology as a partner in learning, not a shortcut. Our goal is to help students develop the skills and habits they'll need to thrive in a future where critical thinking, creativity, and responsible use of technology matter more than ever.
